March Employment Numbers in Northern Alberta

The Government of Canada has released their job numbers for the month of March and it doesn’t make things look overly great.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the numbers:

  • 33,000 Jobs lost
  • Unemployment rose from 6.6% in Feb to 6.7% in March
  • 62,000 Full-time jobs lost in March.

That being said, this doesn’t paint the picture for every region in Canada. The Cold Lake, Bonnyville, Lac La Biche and St. Paul area has seen quite the opposite and is experiencing labour shortages in some industry’s.

This is what our Job Data told us:

  • 266 jobs posted for the month of March.
  • 85 Jobs we’re reposted*
  • This signals that employer’s are unable to fill these roles.
  • 32% of reposted jobs were in Oil & Gas.
  • 5.6% Unemployment for Cold Lake-Woof Buffalo

Nearly half of all jobs posted & reposted are in Oil & Gas.

Although we are unable to get the most precise data, from what we are seeing in the Lakeland Region is not exactly inline with the entire Canadian economy.
