Job Purpose & Responsibilities:


This is a permanent, full-time position in the Land Use, Planning, Development, and Regulatory Services Department.


Reporting to the Principal Planner, this position is responsible for:


  • Delivering the development, permitting, and compliance process from application review / permit issuance to compliance, monitoring, review, and development completion
  • Reviewing plans and applications for compliance with the Land Use Bylaw
  • Providing information, assistance, interpretation, and consultation of bylaws, policies, and procedures to facilitate the compliance and development process while ensuring adherence to required municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Organizing and monitoring the development compliance process to meet departmental objectives and support sustainable development within the City of Cold Lake
  • Reporting to SDAB
  • Performing on-site inspections to enforce the intentions of the Land Use Bylaw and Municipal Engineering Standards.
  • Conducting special projects, research, and assisting the department as needed
  • Providing excellent customer service both over the phone and in person

Qualifications:


  • Two-year post-secondary diploma in Planning and Urban Development, Architecture/Building/Construction Technologies or equivalent
  • Alberta Land Use Planning Certificate
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a Development Officer, or related experience. Experience in a Municipal setting is considered an asset.
  • Eligible for Alberta Developments Officer’s Association (ADOA) or Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) membership
  • Strong computer knowledge
  • Class 5 driver’s license

Salary for this position is $42.98/hr.; hours of work are 35 hours per week.


This position is within the scope of AUPE Local 118/016, and as such you will be required to adhere to articles contained within the Collective Agreement.
