Director of Education
The Whitefish Lake First Nation 128 Education Authority, located in North Eastern Alberta is currently inviting and accepting applications for a Director of Education . The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the nation's K-12 programming, the nation's post secondary and daycare programs, and maintain a positive working relationship with the provincial school boards.
Education and Qualifications
Masters degree in Education or equivalent with proven successful leadership experience in the field of education
Knowledge of First Nations treaty-crown relationship, history and knowledge of constitution, legal legislation and political frameworks that impact the WFLFN128
Alberta teacher certification and proven successful teaching experience
Alberta Education leadership certificate would be an asset
Possess understanding of the Alberta Education and the provincial school system
Possess strong ability in strategic planning
Demonstrate excellent knowledge of First Nations context and land-based learning
Skills and Abilities
Fluency in the Cree language would be a asset
Excellent written and oral communications
Must be self-directed and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Wide variety of knowledge relating to computer applications
Proven successful experience in fiscal responsibilities including budget planning and reporting
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively with many different groups of people including government officials, parents, employees, nation members, teachers and school administrators
Strong ability in conflict resolution
Experience writing proposals, completing reporting requirements, policies and procedures
Ability to facilitate and maintain positive and meaningful community engagement
Ability to demonstrate transparency in all aspects of this position
Responsibilities
Ensure that all WFLFN128 education and daycare facilities are safe for all children and youth
Work as a liaison between the school and daycare staff, the WFLFN128 leadership and community, the WFLFN128 administration and program leads, Indigenous Services Canada, Tribal Chiefs Education Foundation, Tribal Chiefs Ventures inc., and Alberta Education
Ensure that the fiscal management of the school authority is in accordance with ISC and other grant programs
Ensure that effective systems are in place for the selection, supervision, and development and performance of all staff in the local school, the post secondary program and daycare center
