Position Overview and Responsibilities


Whitefish Lake First Nations #128 is seeking a highly motivated, energetic and dynamic individual for the position of Teacher to join


our growing team. This position reports directly to the Pakan School Principal. This is a Full Time Position for the 2024 - 2025 school year. The Teacher is responsible for assessing the educational needs and implementation of instructional programs that meet the needs of each student and comply with provincial programs of study. This position will include classroom instruction and the development of educational materials and resources.


In this position, the Teacher will also perform the below mentioned duties:



  • Develop lesson plans and homework assignments and able to deliver curriculum, approved by Alberta Education;

  • Diagnose the educational needs, prescribe and implement instructional programs that meet the needs of each student;

  • Teach students online on the provided Virtual teaching portal;

  • Ensure the completion of the course outlines, syllabus, and student records;

  • Treating students with dignity and respect and adhere to human rights and privacy laws;

  • Conduct pre and post language assessments;

  • Modify instructional material considering age and development level of students;

  • Build positive relationships with students by providing meaningful and current instruction;

  • Advocate for student concerns and provide students with clear expectations, continual feedback, opportunities to expand their skill and knowledge bases;

  • Attend all necessary meetings, and participate in special events and school celebrations;

  • Attend in-services and workshops as approved by the School Principal;

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress;

  • Other duties shall be assigned as required;


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education is required, Registered or must be eligible for teacher certification in Alberta;

  • Fluency in English and able to speak, read and write Cree is an asset;

  • Experience in developing curriculum and teaching kids;

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver instructional material;

  • Ability to build, maintain rapport & trust with students & must have a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills;;

  • Able to follow instructions and have attention to detail and able to Stand for extended periods;

  • Honest, trustworthy and flexible and experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset;

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record & Child Intervention Check;

  • MUST be willing to follow the COVID guidelines/protocols and wear PPE if required , which will be provided by the Pakan School Administration;

  • Proficient working with computers, including work with Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications;
