Location: Cold Lake Public Library, North and South Branch

Hours of Work: 20 hours per week, including days, evenings, and Saturdays

Salary: 17.00 per hour

Position Overview

The front desk circulation clerk is responsible for the daily provision of library services for the library. Most of the work involves actively engaging the public to assist with public access to library services.

This position predominantly works with the public in two busy neighbourhood locations. This work frequently involves working with people who attend the library for borrowing materials, registering for a membership, readers’ advisory, research, and for access to expanded services and collections such as e-resources, public computers, photocopying, and WI-FI access.

Key Duties

1. Circulation & customer service: Circulation of library material, assisting patrons with checkouts and check-ins, creating, and managing patron accounts, resolving routine patron concerns, and escalating concerns as necessary.

2. Reference & readers' advisory: Responding to information inquiries, including reference interviews, readers’ advisory, assisting patrons in using library technologies (including assistive technology, and specialized equipment).

3. Administrative duties: Room bookings, routine financial transactions, cash handling, entering patron incidents and other statistics into databases.

4. Operational duties: Opening and closing duties, daily branch operations, creating displays, supply ordering and organizing, including operational oversight.

5. Events: May be asked to assist with library events and programs.

6. Outreach: Outreach and participating in library events in the community (i.e. parades).

Qualifications

▪ Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years experience dealing with the public, preferably in a library setting. Or completion of a Library and Information Technology diploma.

▪ Minimum of one year experience within the past five years working directly with the public

▪ Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in the stated accountabilities and competencies.
