ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College is actively seeking a skilled and motivated Journeyperson to instruct our Carpentry program at our Lac La Biche campus.
Responsibilities include:
- Deliver engaging theory and hands-on lab instruction to students in the Carpentry program.
- Develop learning materials and assessments tailored for adult learners which will include the use of various Microsoft Office programs, following college and program guidelines.
- Support student success by providing timely feedback and evaluations.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols in both classroom and lab settings, in line with Albertaβs Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where everyone feels valued.
- Continuously improve instructional practices to enhance student learning.
- Stay connected with industry professionals and regulatory bodies to ensure our program meets industry standards and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Journeyperson Carpenter; Red Seal preferred. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Applicants should possess a congenial personality that fosters trust and positive relationships with learners and staff.
- Strong knowledge of building construction and applicable codes and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and understandably.
- Computer skills are recommended, with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and applications, such as PowerPoint.
- The successful applicant will be required to provide a current vulnerable sector criminal record check.
