JOB TITLE:  PAKAN SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

LOCATION:  WHITEFISH LAKE FIRST NATION #128

REPORTS TO:  WHITEFISH LAKE FIRST NATION 128 EDUCATION DIRECTOR

TERM LENGTH:  1 YEAR TERM CONTRACT: FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT

Job Summary:

Whitefish Lake First Nation #128, a Cree community in northeastern Alberta, is seeking an innovative and visionary Principal to lead all aspects of the Pakan Elementary and Junior High School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional leadership to ensure there is continued development of engaging learning environments for students
  • Collaborate with staff, parents, students, and administration to plan for the delivery of quality programs that are responsive to students
  • Manage and organize school routines and procedures that ensure a safe, healthy, and caring school community
  • Demonstrate visionary leadership that promote and provide meaningful, relevant learning opportunities
  • Demonstrate commitment to our students' academic and social success in an inclusive learning environment
  • Demonstrate commitment to building strong working relationships within the school and with the First Nation at large
  • Have the ability to provide effective leadership that encourages innovation, collaboration, respect and trust
  • Demonstrate excellent understanding of First Nation history, intergenerational trauma, and trauma informed practices

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Fluency in the Cree language - Nehiyawewin - is a definite asset
  • Masters in Education degree with specialization in leadership, with a minimum of a Bachelor of Education degree with proven successful experience in teaching and school administration
  • In possession of valid Alberta Permanent Teaching certification
  • Completion of the Leadership Quality Standard would be a definite asset - achieved or in progress
  • Proven successful experience in finance management/budget and school success plans
  • History of ongoing professional and personal development to support the leadership role
  • Proficiency with the PowerSchool student information system
  • Submission of a current Intervention Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

Working Conditions:

  • Ongoing Interaction with Whitefish Lake First Nation 128 leadership, nation administration, parents, nation members, school staff members, students, ISC
  • Occasional evening or weekend work for meetings or events.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, language, traditions, and sensitivity to the needs of the community (preferred).
