Position Overview and Responsibilities
Whitefish Lake First Nation #128 in Goodfish Lake, Alberta is looking for a highly qualified, skilled, creative, and dedicated individual to fill the full-time role of Principal for Pakan Elementary/Junior High School. Located approximately 130 miles northeast of Edmonton, AB, this position reports directly to the Education Director and will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- A motivated leader to lead a staff composed of K4 Grade 9, support staff and a Sccyber and an Open Campus
- Must be able to develop a comprehensive school operational plan that will be able to distribute adequately with existing resources and support employees;
- Have a proven track record in problem solving, implementing and fostering good staff relations and establish a good rapport with the parents in the community;
- Experience in developing and implementing a public relations strategy that increases community awareness of the school and its programs;
- Ensure that effective and appropriate educational programs are delivered to all students;
- Provide a safe and caring environment that fosters well-being and maintains respectful and responsible behavior for each student;
- Experience in developing intra and extra-curricular activities for the student body;
- To assemble and establish liaison with a parental advisory committee;
- Must be adaptable & flexible to develop innovative plans & programs to meet the diverse needs of the student body;
- Reporting to funding agencies;
- Develop and maintain positive and effective relations with the Education Director, Administration and surrounding school boards;
- Provide leadership, guidance and direction to teaching, paraprofessional and support staff in areas of program delivery, classroom management and instruction;
- Participate in community affairs in order to enhance and support the Pakan Elementary/Junior High School;
- Knowledgeable in First Nations History and Culture;
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in education or equivalent experience and education;
- Minimum 3-5 years teaching experience with above average classroom organization and management skills;
- Experience teaching students of varying abilities and knowledgeable with Special Education programs;
- Possess an appreciation for the desires and aspirations of First Nation people and empathy for First Nation children;
- High level of written and oral communication skills and solid work ethic and flexibility when the occasion arises;
- Strong team player with a commitment to work with community members, leadership and parents;
- High level of interpersonal skills with an ability to resolve conflicts objectively and with understanding;
- Dynamic, outgoing individual with a passion for student success;
- Some experience with budget control, school policies, student safety standards and human resource management;
- Previous experience with administration of a First Nation school would be an asset;
- Current Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance & Vulnerable Sector Check;
