Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for effective implementation of the overall upkeep, repair, and operation of all services required for Public Works operations. The individual will work in all aspects of daily operation of the Public Works Department, including water, sewer, waste disposal, roads, parks, general maintenance, and equipment maintenance.


This position includes a comprehensive benefits and pension package (after probation period).


Education:

  • Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent
  • Water and waste water certification would be an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with Q endorsement, and a clean driving abstract
  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment such as grader and loader

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates mechanical equipment which is associated with roads, sidewalks, water and sewer line repair, including but not limited to operation of grader, backhoe, excavator, loader, packer, and sewer flusher
  • Able to work in confined spaces as well as at heights (training will be provided)
  • Able to perform physical labour, which will include solid waste collection, repairs and maintenance of roadways and streets, sidewalks, street signs, water and sewer lines, hydrants, valves, etc.
  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment
  • Must be able to provide a Criminal Records Check
  • Must be able to work rotational standby
  • Must be willing to work overtime
  • Demonstrate initiative, motivation, and co-operation
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Must be willing to complete Level 1 Water and Wastewater Certificates
