Position Summary:
The Resident Intake Worker is responsible for conducting intake assessments, screening potential residents, and ensuring a smooth transition into the shelter. This role provides compassionate support while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring all
necessary documentation is completed in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct intake interviews and assessments for new residents, ensuring they
meet eligibility criteria.
Complete and maintain accurate documentation, including intake forms, consent
forms, and case notes.
Provide an overview of shelter policies, expectations, and available services to
new residents.
Assess residents' immediate needs and connect them with appropriate internal
and external resources.
Maintain clear communication with staff regarding new intakes, bed availability,
and client needs.
Ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents, respecting
diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Uphold strict confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
Assist with conflict resolution and crisis intervention as needed.
Collaborate with community organizations to provide additional support services
to clients.
Qualifications & Skills:
Diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (or
equivalent experience).
Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly women and children fleeing violence or homelessness.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention strategies.
Strong communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community resources is an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management software is an asset.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is preferred.
A clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check are required.
