S2425-33 Student Advocacy Counselor - North Star Elementary School


This is a part-time (0.50 fte) temporary position commencing as soon as possible. The Student Advocacy Counselor promotes student success, provides preventative services and responds to identified student needs. The successful applicant will provide universals for the entire school that targets executive functioning and social skills.


North Star Elementary School is located in the City of Cold Lake with approximately 430 students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Walk in the doors of North Star Elementary School and you will feel the difference! The school is bright and spacious, children are engaged, happy and busy, the staff are energetic and friendly.


Preference will be given to applicants who have :



  • A minimum qualification of a Social Work Diploma or greater

  • A personal philosophy for creating strong relationships with youth and families

  • Ability to provide counseling for students

  • Ability to provide support and referrals for students and families

  • Ability to develop behaviour support plans

  • Ability to provide crisis intervention

  • Proven ability to be a strong contributing member of a motivated team

  • Previous experience with Google Workspace (Google Classroom, Meet, Drive, etc.)

  • A understanding of intergenerational trauma, indigenous culture, healing circles, restorative justice, etc.
