School Community Liaison Worker


Required for Heinsburg School



Heinsburg School is seeking an individual to fill the role of School Community Liaison Worker commencing the 2024-2025 school year.


Heinsburg School is located in Heinsburg, Alberta, is a Grade K-12 school with approximately 115 students.


School Community Liaison Worker Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Promoting communication and positive relationships between the school and community.

  • Conducting home visits.

  • Assisting in screening and selecting culturally relevant materials for the school.

  • Assisting with planning school or Division events (e.g., feasts, round dances, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, National Indigenous Peoples Day, etc.).

  • Encouraging family involvement in their children’s education.

  • Working with families and students to help students stay in school or return to school.

  • Working with families, students, staff and other stakeholders to support students with high school completion and post-secondary and career planning.

  • Other educational assistant duties as assigned by the principal.

  • The ability to speak in Cree would be considered an asset.


The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, energetic, caring, and student-centered individual with a background in Cree culture and excellent communication skills. Some travel will be required.

Geographically and demographically, St. Paul Education covers a large rural/urban area in Northeast Alberta. We serve the communities of St. Paul, Elk Point, Two Hills, Mallaig, Ashmont, Myrnam and Heinsburg. We also serve students from Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Whitefish Lake First Nation #128, Frog Lake First Nation and Kehewin Cree Nation.



In 1995, parent and community stakeholders initiated the amalgamation of five school boards into what is now St. Paul Education. In doing so, St. Paul Education became the only school division in Alberta to operate both separate and public schools under one board. The Division’s religious, linguistic and cultural diversity is a source of strength and pride.


We serve 3,625 students (K-12), including Catholic, First Nation, Mennonite, Hutterite and Home Schooling learners. Our 19 definable school sites are staffed by approximately 240 FTE teaching staff and 345 support staff.
