Reports To: School Principal
Job Purpose:
In this role, the substitute will cover for an absent full-time teacher, adhering to the day’s lesson plan and ensuring that students have a fulfilling learning experience. The ideal candidate will have substitute-teaching experience and an ability to lead classrooms effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support for teachers who are absent from work
- Mentor and engage students
- Maintain discipline and control of the classroom
- Implement lesson plans and learning objectives set by teachers
- Provide the monitoring of students, classroom management, and facilitation of classroom activities
- May be required to grade tests, file reports, and assign and check homework
- Recess and lunch supervision including the serving of food
- Observes and follows school policies
- Work in a variety of classroom from kindergarten to grade 8 including physical education classes

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- Physical requirements for teaching positions vary greatly.
- Physical education teachers are required to be somewhat fit and capable of instructing students on the proper methods to exercise and play games.
- Junior high, elementary, kindergarten and preschool teachers are required to escort the class throughout lunchtimes, to different classrooms, to recess, and to field trips.
- Must be prepared to move about classrooms according to the activity level of the children.
- Must be prepared for supervision and instruction both inside and/or outside the classroom.
