Reports To: School Principal
Job Purpose:
Foster the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of young students in accordance with Alberta’s Programs of Study. The teacher creates an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that helps students develop foundational skills and a lifelong love of learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Design and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Alberta’s K-8 curriculum across subjects such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, and Physical Education.
· Incorporate Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and languages into lesson plans where appropriate, fostering an inclusive and respectful classroom environment.
· Use a variety of instructional strategies, including inquiry-based and hands-on learning, to meet the diverse needs of students.
· Emphasize experiential and land-based learning opportunities, encouraging connections to traditional practices and ways of knowing.
· Integrate literacy and numeracy across all subject areas while promoting creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.
· Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
· Use positive behavior management strategies to encourage student engagement and appropriate conduct.
· Address behavioral challenges effectively using school policies and restorative approaches.
· Promote a culture of respect, collaboration, and kindness among students.
· Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
· Provide constructive feedback to support student growth and learning.
· Maintain accurate records of student achievement and communicate progress to parents/guardians through report cards and conferences.
· Use assessment data to guide instructional planning and interventions.
· Support students with diverse needs, including those with Individualized Program Plans (IPPs),and students with exceptionalities.
· Collaborate with support staff (e.g., educational assistants, speech therapists, occupational therapists) to meet the needs of all learners.
· Foster students' emotional and social well-being by implementing inclusive teaching strategies and social-emotional learning practices.
· Provide additional support for struggling students through differentiated instruction and targeted interventions.
· Build strong relationships with students, parents/guardians, and school staff.
· Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities.
· Work collaboratively with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to share best practices and strategies.
· Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
· Stay current with educational research, teaching strategies, and curriculum updates.
· Adhere to the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and maintain professional integrity.
· Engage in continuous professional development to enhance instructional practices.
· Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and community-building initiatives.
· Encourage student participation in extracurricular programs that support holistic development.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
· Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)
· Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate issued by the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA).
· Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
· Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
· Knowledge of technology integration in the classroom.
· Passion for working with young children and supporting their development.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
· Full-time or part-time position based on school needs.
· Regular school hours with occasional evening or weekend commitments for school events, parent meetings, or professional development.
· Engaging in indoor and outdoor learning activities with young children.
