Position Summary:
We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant is a professional who supports accounting management. They work closely with the controller(s) to ensure compliance with regulations and accounting guidelines.
Primary responsibilities include supporting accounting management, identifying internal controls deficiencies, preparing financial statements, managing journal entries, assisting in budgeting, and forecasting, and reviewing accounting information for accuracy. They utilize accounting software, analyze data, and contribute to the financial reporting and control processes of the company.
Management:
- Support most aspects of accounting management (billing, tax forms, reporting etc.)
- Assist in the recognition of internal control deficiencies and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements.
- Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts.
- Help in development of reports for management or regulatory bodies.
- Review the companyβs accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
- Provide mentorship and training to accounting team.
- Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records.
Accounting:
- Coordinate and prepare internal financial statements.
- Plan, organize and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes.
- Provide monthly, quarterly and year-end analysis.
- Analyze and interpret cost and expense variances quarterly.
- Multi divisional accounting.
Reporting:
- Coordinate and prepare internal financial statements.
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to assistant controller.
Compliance:
- Comply with government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Help in preparation of T4βs and WCB.
- GST preparation and filing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge:
- Bachelorβs degree in business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline or minimum years of 2 years in senior accounting role.
Skills:
- Proven leadership track record.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Impeccable analytical and organizational skills.
- Credible, ethical, and clean financial history.
- Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order.
- Strong financial reporting technical skills.
- Sage 50 experience.
- CaseWare experience an asset.
